My dear sisters and brothers, elders and seekers, I welcome you into this space with an open heart. Today, I want to talk to you about something that sits very deep within our marrow. It is something we often feel as a quiet tugging at our souls, a whisper from those who came before us, asking us to remember who we truly are.
In our fast-paced, digital world, it is so easy to feel adrift. We often find ourselves searching for healing in places that do not recognise our unique spirit or our history. We look for answers in pills and quick fixes, forgetting that our ancestors carried a pharmacy in their pockets and a sanctuary in their prayers.
At Fematin958 Intl, we believe that true transformation begins when we stop running away from our past and start leaning into the wisdom of our lineage.
The Remembering: Acknowledging the Void
The first phase of the journey I guide my clients through is The Remembering. Many of us walk through life with a profound sense of cultural and spiritual disconnection. We feel like a tree with withered leaves, not realising that the issue isn’t the sun or the rain, but the fact that our roots have been severed from their source.
Generational trauma is not just a psychological concept; it is a spiritual weight. When our grandmothers suppressed their pain to survive, and our mothers stayed silent to protect us, that energy did not simply vanish.
It settled into our DNA. We see it manifesting today as chronic anxiety, a lack of purpose, or a recurring pattern of broken relationships.
To remember is to acknowledge that we are not starting from zero. We are the continuation of a long, sacred line. We must begin by asking the hard questions: Who were the women who birthed our lineage?
What were their songs? What were their sorrows? By identifying these gaps in our history, we begin to bridge the distance between our current self and our ancestral self.
The Unveiling: The Power of Sacred Rituals
Once we have begun to remember, we move into The Unveiling. This is where we pull back the curtain on the “how” of our healing. In Yoruba cosmology, there is no separation between the physical and the spiritual. Our health is a reflection of our alignment with our destiny and our ancestors.
One of the most beautiful aspects of our heritage is our relationship with the earth. Consider the tradition of Agbo. For many of us, the smell of herbs boiling on a stove is a childhood memory.
Agbo is more than just a liquid medicine; it is a sacred decoction. When we boil those leaves to treat malaria (Agbo iba) or to soothe a fever, we are engaging in a ritual of alchemy. We are taking the life force of the plants and asking them to harmonise with our own.
However, the “unveiling” is also about looking at the bitter herbs of our lives. Just as some Agbo is bitter to the taste but life-saving for the blood, some of our healing work requires us to face uncomfortable truths.
We must unveil the negative patterns we have inherited. Are you carrying a “poverty consciousness” that wasn’t yours to begin with? Are you holding onto a fear of being seen that served your ancestors’ safety but is now suffocating your success?
The Reclaiming: Stepping Into Your Power
The final movement of our work is The Reclaiming. This is the moment you stop being a victim of your history and start being the architect of your future. To reclaim is to take back your divine feminine power and your spiritual authority.
Reclaiming means setting up your own sacred altar, perhaps a quiet corner in your home where you light a candle and speak the names of your ancestors. It means choosing to heal so that the trauma stops with you.
When you heal yourself, you are not just doing it for your own peace of mind; you are performing a retrospective healing for those who died in pain and a prospective healing for the children yet to be born.
In this phase, we move from “searching” to “knowing.” You begin to move with the grace of a woman who knows she is backed by a thousand ancestors. Your decisions become grounded, your voice becomes clearer, and your heart becomes a sanctuary for others.
Bridging the Gap with Grounded Wisdom
I often see people who are “spiritually curious” but feel intimidated by the idea of ritual. They think it requires elaborate robes or secret languages. But the most powerful spirituality is the most grounded.
It is found in the way you wash your face in the morning, the way you season your food, and the way you honor the elders in your community.
The challenges we face today, such as cultural disconnection and the feeling of being “lost,” are simply invitations to return home to ourselves. Our Yoruba traditions teach us that we are never truly alone.
We are surrounded by a cloud of witnesses. When we tap into that wisdom, we find a strength that the modern world cannot provide.
The Sacred Invitation
Healing is not a destination; it is a journey of returning. It is a process of peeling back the layers of who the world told you to be, until you find the radiant soul that your ancestors always knew you were.
If you are feeling the weight of patterns you cannot explain, or if you feel a longing for a deeper connection to your roots, I want you to know that there is a seat for you at the table. You do not have to navigate this path by yourself.
Sometimes, we just need a guide to help us find the trail that was hidden by the overgrowth of time.
Let us work together to transform those shadows into stepping stones. Your ancestors are waiting for you to call their names. Your spirit is waiting for you to say “yes” to your own restoration.
Are you ready to break the cycle and reclaim your divine heritage?
I invite you to take the first step toward your own “Remembering.” You don’t have to carry the weight of the past alone. Together, we can look at the patterns in your life and find the medicine hidden within the roots.
