Dearest Sister, have you ever felt a surge of energy when you speak your truth, an inexplicable power that snaps things into alignment? Have you witnessed the almost magical way certain intentions, once truly spoken, begin to manifest in the world around you? That feeling, that undeniable force, is the echo of Àṣẹ, the Divine Life Force, speaking through you.
In the traditions of the Yorùbá people, where my work with Fematin958 Intl is deeply rooted, Àṣẹ is not simply a word or a philosophical concept; it is the fundamental, sacred energy that permeates all of existence.
It is the power given by the Supreme Creator, Olódùmarè, to everything: the ancestors, the rivers, the sacred words spoken in prayer, and, critically, to you. It is the authority to make things happen, to command change, and to manifest destiny.4
For too long, many of us, especially Black women navigating the complexities of historical and intergenerational trauma, have been told that our power lies outside of us, somewhere beyond reach. We have been taught to seek validation, strength, and authority from external sources.
The wisdom of Àṣẹ calls us back home. It reminds us that this potent energy is not a religious artefact you must petition for, but an intrinsic part of your being. It lives in your breath, your voice, and the power of your Orí (your spiritual head and destiny).
Àṣẹ: More Than a Word, It is Your Innate Authority
The simplest translation of Àṣẹ is often “power” or “authority,” but it is also the equivalent of saying “So be it,” or “Amen,” but with a vital difference.
When a word of affirmation ends with Àṣẹ, it is not a plea for an external God to act; it is an active spiritual investment, a command that mobilises the energy already residing within you and the universe to bring the spoken intention into reality.
Think of Àṣẹ not as the battery itself, but as the current, the electrical charge that animates the entire system.
- It is the creative force that allows you to shift from a state of stagnation to one of movement and manifestation.
- It is the ancestral current that connects you to the unbroken chain of resilience and wisdom forged by those who came before you.
- It is the feminine divine energy that allows you to birth new ideas, new relationships, and new realities for yourself and your community.
Àṣẹ is neutral, like the wind; it simply is. It is your consciousness, your intention, and your alignment that directs how that energy flows through your life, creating either harmony or chaos.
Reclaiming Your Àṣẹ Through the Three Phases of Healing
Our journey at Fematin958 Intl is designed to systematically help you clear the blockages of cultural disconnection and inherited pain so you can fully step into your Àṣẹ.
This work is a continuous cycle of healing, transformation, and spiritual alignment, reflected in the three core phases of our programme.
1. The Remembering: Acknowledging the Inheritance
The first step in claiming your power is understanding the roots of your challenges. Generational trauma, the silent wound passed down through our lineages, often manifests as a dampening of our Àṣẹ.
This trauma creates patterns of hyper-vigilance, emotional suppression, and a deep-seated belief that we must minimise ourselves to survive.
The Remembering is the sacred act of acknowledging the echoes of pain and strength in your history. It is the courageous look backward that allows you to comprehend the present.
You are not just dealing with personal anxiety or self-doubt; you are responding to the collective history held in your body, and that requires a compassionate, informed response.
- Challenge Addressed: Generational Trauma and Cultural Disconnection.
- Activation Point: Re-establishing the link to your lineage not just in pain, but in resilience.11 You begin to see your history as a source of powerful Àṣẹ that enabled your ancestors not just to survive, but to create.
2. The Unveiling: Removing the Veil of Limitation
Once you have begun to remember, you move into the process of The Unveiling. This phase is where we actively dismantle the negative self-talk, the toxic relationship patterns, and the limiting beliefs that have veiled your inherent power.
These are not merely ‘bad habits,’ they are the maladaptive coping mechanisms inherited from ancestors who were forced to adapt to unbearable systems of oppression.
This is the hard, beautiful work of Iwa Pelé (good character), where you consciously choose to transform the inner landscape of your Orí. This is the moment you realise that the expectation to be the ‘strong Black woman’ is a trauma response, and true strength lies in your vulnerability and your willingness to heal.
You are shifting the epigenetic state of your being by refusing to let historical stress dictate your present.
- Challenge Addressed: Lack of Ancestral Connection and Inner Blockages.
- Activation Point: Learning to discern the voice of trauma from the voice of your soul. As you clear the debris, your personal Àṣẹ begins to flow more freely, clarifying your purpose and direction.
3. The Reclaiming: Speaking Your Destiny into Being
Finally, we arrive at The Reclaiming, the powerful manifestation of your healed and activated Àṣẹ. This is where you consciously choose to embody your purpose, using your voice as an instrument of creation.
When you speak from this place of spiritual alignment, your words carry weight and authority. Your intentions become magnetic.
To reclaim your Àṣẹ is to live every day as an Aláàṣẹ (one who possesses $Àṣẹ$), knowing that you are co-creating your reality in harmony with the divine will.15 It means standing tall, clear, and grounded, using your personal life force to effect positive change in your family, community, and the wider world.
A Sacred Invitation
Dearest Sister, the power you are searching for is not lost; it has simply been sleeping beneath the weight of history. Your Àṣẹ is an undeniable fact of your existence, a birthright bestowed upon you by the Creator.
It is time to stop waiting for permission to be powerful. It is time to move from passively hoping for change to actively commanding it.
I look forward to walking this path of transformation with you.
